Digital seeding - timing

Here's how to register and report your time in connection with your digital seeding.

There are two different ways for you to track your time, either through a watch with GPS, or with a phone with GPS reception and a training app. Lidingöloppet is connected to the training app STRAVA, which you can download for free via AppStore or Google Play.

Before your race:
Ensure that you have a fully charged phone/watch with you and that you have downloaded the latest version of the app you will use to time your run. Lidingöloppet recommends that you use the training app STRAVA, but it is also fine to use another training app with GPS functionality such as Runkeeper, as well as the most common watch formats.

At the start:
Make sure you prepare your app/watch for timing and that it has 'captured' the GPS signal where you are.

When the "starting signal" is given, begin timing using the app/watch you will measure the time with.

Select Race/Competition for your session. This will measure the time from start to finish when you turn off the watch/app, Elapsed Time. If the watch/app is set to Run/Training, the time will be displayed in Moving Time when you save your session. Usually shorter because you might have stopped to drink or tie your shoes. The result time is measured in Elapsed Time=total time.

At the finish line:
Stop the time when you cross the finish line.
Make sure to save the session in your app/watch, and please double-check that the app/watch has registered your run before you leave the finish area.

Moving Time - movement time
The time when you are moving during your session.
This time is usually displayed on your watch/app if you have the Run/Training setting.

Elapsed Time - total time from start to finish
Total time from start to finish of your session on your watch/app.
Displayed if you select Race/Competition for your session on your watch/app.
It is this time that the result time is based on.

When you need to report your time:
Go to My Pages (the link can be found in the Start Certificate email). Here you can now choose two different ways to report your time.

1. By submitting a GPX file from any fitness app
How to do this varies slightly depending on which watch/app you have. Visit the respective manufacturer's website for instructions on how to proceed. Download the GPX file, preferably to your computer or phone. It's usually easiest on a website and not in an app. Note, the file you choose must have the .gpx extension for us to be able to read the result.

Common timing devices:

Runkeeper
Finish your recording in the Runkeeper app, Log in to the Runkeeper website (not the app)
If you can see your activity in your activity feed, click on it there, otherwise click on the "Me" tab and then select activities on the right side of the screen. This allows you to choose from all your activities - select the appropriate activity and it will load on the right panel. Scroll down the page and directly below the activity on the right side, there is a section called “Export” with a link that says “GPX” - click here. A GPX file will be downloaded to your computer - remember where it is saved. That's the one you will upload.

Polar

2. By selecting one of the sessions you've registered in the Strava workout app.
You can either link your workout app/watch directly to Strava, which means that the sessions, including your race performance, will appear directly in STRAVA and can be selected there, (here you can find a good information page on how to connect your watch with STRAVA). Alternatively, you can use STRAVA as your timing app on your phone. You must first link your Lidingöloppet account to your Strava account, which you do by clicking the "Connect with Strava" button. After that, you will be able to choose which of your Strava sessions you want to submit as your "race entry".

If neither of these two reporting methods work, you will also be able to manually report your time under "My Pages". No split times can then be entered in the results list.

If your result is approved, that is, it meets the required distance for your registered length, you will immediately be notified that your result is approved. There may also be some form of uncertainty in your result and we may need to review this manually. If so, you will be informed via e-mail when your result is approved. Your result is marked in the results list with a yellow triangle while the review is in progress.
