About Lidingöloppet

The Lidingöloppet is the world's largest cross-country race and is organized on the last weekend of September each year on Lidingö. The first race was held in 1965 and today, 60 years later, we organize races throughout the year.

Lidingöloppet is a non-profit activity owned by the sports clubs IFK Lidingö Skiing and Orienteering and IFK Lidingö Athletics.

We are one of Sweden's largest race organizers and part of En Svensk Klassiker. We are owned and operated by the sports clubs IFK Lidingö Athletics and IFK Lidingö Skiing and Orienteering, and all profits go back to sports. In addition to generating a significant contribution to the owner clubs' activities, Lidingöloppet enables a large number of volounteers on Lidingö to work as officials and thereby earn money for their association.

The Lidingöloppet could not have been organized without all the amazing volunteers. Our volunteers are truly our heroes who contribute on a purely voluntary basis. During the Lidingöloppet weekend, about 2500 volunteers participate. In addition to the voluntary heroes, there are about 10 of us working on planning and developing the race throughout the year.

The Lidingöloppet takes place amidst beautiful nature, which we aim to preserve. In 1997, we were Sweden's first eco-labeled event. The journey continues towards the world's largest sustainable event.

The Lidingöloppet has a long and distinguished history, but how did it come to be? And who were behind the creation of the world's largest cross-country race?
